Statewide — Starting Wednesday, Jan. 27, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will display a weekly tally of the year-to-date deaths on Colorado roadways. The Wednesday Memorial will be paired with safety messages aimed at reducing crashes. The messages will appear each Wednesday on digital message signs on highways across the state. According to preliminary data, fatalities are up more than 11 percent, from 488 in 2014 to 545 in 2015. CDOT hopes the campaign will raise ongoing awareness of the tragic number of deaths on Colorado’s roads and encourage safer driving.
