Advance Warning Sign Activation Using Wavetronix Matrix
Advanced Traffic Products completed a project in Kalispell, Montana in December (2014) that is using our Wavetronix Matrix radar to detect vehicles when they stop at an intersection that is roughly 4 miles to the West of Kalispell, Montana.
Due to the high number of collisions at the high-speed, unsignalized highway intersection (flashing indications only) Montana Department of Transportation wanted to add non-invasive devices that could alert cross traffic that they would encounter sudden congestion. As with most Montana roads, conditions at the site can change rapidly due to weather and deteriorating pavement, melting snow, etc. The Wavetronix Matrix Continuous Wave Radar system has proven to be reliable in all of these conditions so it was the choice for this project, as well as for many other sites in the Montana – including a second site in Kalispell. Another major benefit to using Wavetronix radar was the fact that there were no lane closures required on the main highway. That allowed regular high speed traffic to flow all during construction, and also saved that expense.
Now when vehicles are waiting to enter the main highway from the side street, or to turn off from the single lane highway, flashing signs and beacons alert the other traffic of their presence.
